Following on from his critically-lauded debut “The Submarine”, Whitley returns with stellar follow up, “Go Forth, Find Mammoth”. Written and produced by Whitley, and engineered in a ramshackle studio at the Victorian Coast, the new album pushes the talented songwriter to his limits.
This well-realised follow-up picks up where his debut left off in it’s warmth, beauty and intimacy, however it carries a much bolder aspiration. “Go Forth, Find Mammoth” is an engulfing journey filled with flourishes and triumphs. Multiple harmony vocals, strings, pump organ, pedal steel, horns and even a hammer and a bedroom door make up this album’s truly rich and exciting sonic palette.
Although most instrumentation was tackled by Whitley himself, he has invited a few friends to be special guests on this album, including Midnight Oil’s Rob Hirst (drums) and Jim Moginie (organ/vocals). Whitley also passed the mixing duties to Scott Horscroft (The Panics/The Presets) at Big Jesus Burger in Sydney.
The first taste of “Go Forth, Find Mammoth” will be on October 9, when first single “Head, First, Down” will be released digitally.
Whitley’s debut “The Submarine” featured the stand out singles, ‘I Remember’ and ‘Lost In Time’, the latter of which soundtracked the Foxtel TV commercial and took his unique voice to a whole new audience. He toured the USA three times, including with Ben Kweller and received a warm reception from US media.
In the lead up to this album’s release, Whitley has secured festival slots at Peats Ridge, Falls Festival, Southbound and Woodford Folk Festival over the summer of 2009.
“Go Forth, Find Mammoth” will be released on October 30. First single “Head, First, Down” will be a digital only release on October 16.
