It’s been nothing but glorious good news for fans of beloved Irishman James Vincent McMorrow, who this week revealed artwork, name and dates for his second album, Post Tropical. Australia will be the first to hear the work, which will see a release on January 3rd via Dew Process records. For those who cannot wait to get a taste, a teaser video featuring new music from Post Tropical has debuted today, hinting at the absorbing and intimate new sounds captured in the album. The teaser follows an announce earlier this week, which held promise of James returning to stages in Sydney and Melbourne for his own headline shows, alongside appearances at The Falls and Southbound festivals.
On a pecan farm half a mile from the Mexican border, Post Tropical was born - a collection of sounds and ideas brought to life in rooms where the low frequencies of passing freight trains vibrated in the studio, briefly disturbing the birds in the rafters. And like most new ideas, Post Tropical is hard to describe. It requires attention and engagement, seducing you towards hidden depths.
James Vincent McMorrow’s acclaimed debut album, Early in the Morning, reached number 1, went platinum and picked up a Choice Music Prize nomination upon its release in his homeland. Australia’s love for the Irishman thrived when James made his maiden voyage to Australia over Easter 2012 – selling out his Sydney and Melbourne shows with ease, forcing venue upgrades and second shows to meet the demand. Along the way, there were shows everywhere from the Royal Festival Hall to Later...with Jools Holland, and a breakout hit with the spine-tingling cover of Steve Winwood’s ‘Higher Love’. The latter of which featured on a Pure Blonde television commercial in Australia, peaking at #12 on the iTunes Singles charts.
James has confirmed the following Australian shows for 2014 and will reveal the first single for Post Tropical shortly. Post Tropical will be out via Dew Process on January 3rd, 2014.
