Guineafowl have been embraced by fans around Australia but more recently the US have openedtheir arms to their EP ‘Hello Anxiety’, signing a deal with Dangerbird Records. Guineafowl are flying to the USA for a string of shows including Culture Collide in LA and CMJ in New York City and return in November to whet the appetite of Australian crowds on The Lie Is Tour.
The Lie Is Tour will see Guineafowl stopping in to delight capital cities and a few lucky regional centres, showing their wares and LAtans in Fremantle, Newcastle, Canberra, Byron Bay, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Sydney, Wollongong, Adelaide and Melbourne.
As winners of FBi’s SMAC AWARD 2011 ‘Best Sydney Song’, it is of little surprise that Tony Mott, Australia’s leading rock’n’roll photographer asked Sam Yeldham, Guineafowl’s lead singer to pose on the Sydney Harbour Bridge as a part of his exhibition at the CMJ reception in NYC. The exhibition showcases Mott’s lifelong work at CMJ with Guineafowl as guest performers.
Guineafowl began as a solo project in a bedroom and has now grown to a five-piece band performing their spacious tunes and danceable beats. Highlighted as one of Rolling Stone’s artists to watch in 2011, Guineafowl recently supported Foster The People as well as The Grates to a rousing response.
“Swaggering charm of indie-built bravado, with a laidback twinkle and lovely harmonies from frontman Sam Yeldham and his lady of the keys.”
Inpress, 24 August 2011
“Ever-present, danceable rhythms, anthemic, pulsating, radio-ready, fuck-off catchy ditties… and a palatable stage presence.”
Drum Media NSW, 28 June 2011
Guineafowl hit the road throughout November to bring their idyllic pop tunes to the sounds of Australians. Tickets on sale September 30.
“Hello Anxiety” is out now through Dew Process/UMA. Click here to buy.
