The Panics back Dave Stewart   11 September 2011

Music heavyweight asks The Panics to be backing band

With ‘Rain On The Humming Wire’ buzzing amongst the press to five star reviews and Feature Album of The Week at triple j, frontman Jae Laffer has proven his place as the strongest voices of the next Australian generation of songwriters.

“Let’s not waste decades to celebrate a remarkable Australian band. The Panics are something special.”

The West Australian, Album of The Week, 5/5

Distinctly Australian, yet of universal appeal, The Panics’ fourth record convincingly betters their last while affirming them as one of this country’s strongest rock acts.”
The Brag, Album Of The Week, 4/5

The quintet made such an impression on Eurythmics founder Dave Stewart that he has invited them to be his backing band for his forthcoming November/December stadium tour with Stevie Nicks.

Dave Stewart said “The Panics are a band that will go the whole distance. Jae's songs are thankfully eons away from the generic ‘formula’ songwriting that we are being force-fed to listen to via TV and radio all over the world. The opening of ‘Majesty’ sounds like an instant classic, drawing you in closer to hear the story from the singer's lips, this is a band in full control of their destiny.”

Dave Stewart is best known for his work with the Eurythmics, however his music career spans three decades and more than 100 million album sales including hits Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), Missionary Man, Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves, Would I Lie To You? And Thorn in My Side. He has written with Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Bono. Mick Jagger's latest supergroup project Superheavy is comprised of the Rolling Stones frontman, Eurythmics founder, Dave Stewart, soul singer Joss Stone, award-winning composer, A.R Rahman and Bob Marley's youngest, reggae artist Damian Marley. The album is produced by Dave Stewart.

But before they join one of the musical greats, The Panics now take their unique perspective to all corners of the great southern land with a national headline tour spanning all capital cities and major regional towns.

Joining The Panics on tour will be Sydney duo Georgia Fair bringing the acoustic folk-pop of their evocative, winsome debut album to the stage. Avalanche City also hit the endless road with their lo-fi pop perfection and honest words of dedication.

“Rain on The Humming Wire” is out now through Dew Process/UMA.
